Vatra Dornei/ Judetu Suceava/Romania

Worcester is a city located in northern Romania (Suceava County), in the heart of the Eastern Carpathians, at equal distance from two of their sides (east and west), depression in the corridor that separates the northern group of the central group of them. Situated at the confluence of the Bistrita Aurie or more important tributary of the upper, Dorna, at an altitude of 802-808 m, and 110 km southwest of Suceava, the city has a very favorable position compared to the most important channels of communication.                                                                 










    Worcester is surrounded by a number of medium and low mountains with crystal structure, with an aspect of the hillocks, made of rounded ridges that descend in steps - in the northeast Barnarelu (1321 m), extending massive Giumalau, South Dealu Black ( 1302 m) north Runcu (1155 m), the terminal Suhard Mountains, located at the confluence of the Bistrita angle with Dorna. Beyond these hills that surround the city, rises to the south wall Calimani volcanic mountains to the east mountains and massive crystalline Bistrita-Rarau Giumalau and ridges north Suhardului, all giving a very picturesque town which is placed in the frame Wah.    Istoria acestor locuri a fost integrata, in primele secole de existenta a statului moldovenesc, in istoria tinutului Campulung, care, fiind constituit sub forma unui "ocol domnesc", se bucura de o larga autonomie. Locuitorii tinutului se considerau oameni liberi, care nu aveau alta datorie fata de domnii tarii decat de a efectua straja la hotare.
   Recunoscand acest drept al locuitorilor ocolului, Aron Voda (1592-1595) fixeaza straji la hotarul dinspre Transilvania, pentru a proteja pe campulungenii care isi creasera, prin defrisare, proprietati in Tara Dornelor. Masurile domnesti duc la o rapida dezvoltare a tinutului. La sfarsitul secolului al XVI-lea este mentionata pentru prima oara localitatea de la varsarea Dornei in Bistrita, pe la 1640 existand aici deja o asezare infloritoare (Dorna pe Giumalau), la dezvoltarea asezarii contribuind probabil si situarea sa pe drumul care lega Moldova cu importantele centre comerciale si mestesugaresti Rodna si Bistrita, din Transilvania. In Vatra Dornei exista o ruina care prin modul de constructie aminteste de o cladire a secolelor XVI-XVII. Aceasta ruina este situata la gura paraului Chiliei, pe strada cu acelasi nume, adica tocmai acolo unde si documentar se plaseaza inceputurile orasului. Aici, langa asezarea de la poalele Barnarelului, a existat si un schit cu chiliile aferente.
