Salina Cacica/Suceava County/Romania

Around 1780, the site where it is today Cacica city (north-eastern Romania, the historical Bukovina region, 18 km from the town of Gura Humorului and 40 km from the city of Suceava) salt deposits were discovered. In 1798 the operation was given a saline here, bringing the workers and technicians from different provinces of the Empire Habsurgic, especially in Galicia, most of them ethnic Polish and Roman Catholic religion.

 * Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Barbara - currently bottom of the stairs with 192 steps, 21 feet deep. The chapel was built in 1806 at the initiative of Polish priest Jakub Bogdanowicz miners who wanted to be where the Roman Catholics to pray before and after work (not even a church in the village). Initially it was lined with wood, which is removed in 1904. Patron saint is St. Barbara Chapel (as is called by the Catholics in the area and not Barbara), patron of the miners. Chapel has everything he needs to churches: altar, icons, chandelier, pulpit and choir balcony. The altar and pulpit were carved into massive jumps.
The chapel is large: 25 meters long, 9 m wide and 7 feet high. The walls are rectangular, and the right side is an icon representing it on Saint Barbara, gathered here together every day before the miners descend into the depths of the mine, to pray for her to ask God to protect them in During their work, and after finishing their work, to thank. Once the Mass was celebrated here daily to miners attending Catholics, Greek Catholics and Orthodox. Today, on 4 December of each year, of St. Barbara, the priests in the chapel down the above-listed three faiths to celebrate a thanksgiving, and children have an art program in the traditional costumes of the three ethnic groups in 3 languages
