The area falls within the temperate continental climate of the plateau with some hills and local nuances (winter temperature inversions, calm atmosphere, strong insolation) climatic features have an important role in preventing and treating diseases.

Ocna Sibiu was first mentioned documentary in 1263 although the area is inhabited since the time of the Dacians. The transformation of the mines in pools of water and saline was continuously inevitable. The mines were abandoned in turn, despite the sustained efforts of the miners, rainwater and groundwater, having prevailed in the end. While under the influence of climatic factors, the walls became an imminent collapse, turning into salt lakes today, the main attraction of the resort.

The healing properties of water are mentioned for the first time in 1598 when Ambassador Emperor Rudolf II discovered the therapeutic effect of the lakes, when arrives here on his way to Constantinople to take baths. In 1820, Samuel Pataky doctor, do an analysis of the water chemically, thus showing, scientifically, the healing power of water due to the various existing therapeutic elements. At Ocna Sibiu are treated with great results, musculoskeletal diseases, chronic degenerative rheumatism, arthritis and preartrozele, spondylosis and various gynecological

An old resort (from 1804), open all year round, with numerous springs of carbonated mineral water, or containing calcium, magnesium. These waters are known for their beneficial effect since the second half of the sixteenth century. The therapeutic effects of these springs have been recognized internationally - medal of the Vienna International Fair (1873), silver medal and diploma of honor at the exhibitions held in 1876 in Berlin, respectively, Trieste, honorary diploma Exhibition Paris (1878).Borsec resort is recommended for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases (compensated mitral and aortic insufficiency, hypertension, varices), endocrine diseases (hyperthyroidism, Basedow's disease, the state of prepubertal overweight children), biliary dyskinesia, digestive diseases (hypoacid chronic gastritis, chronic constipation , chronic nonspecific colitis), chronic cholecystitis necalcaroasa, kidney and urinary system disorders, asthenic neurosis, dermatological diseases, metabolic and nutrition etc.

At Borsec no tub installation hot tubs or carbonated mineral water pools, fountains for internal cure with mineral water, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy, facilities for baths with herbs, paraffin packing, gyms. The resort offers extensive leisure opportunities (blazed mountain, sports, movie theaters, ski runs and sledge etc.).In Borsec no more than 15 carbonated natural mineral water, with close chemical composition, stable in time, the flow variables, the most important sources of quality and that Flow was 1 and 2. By their composition, mineral waters have curative effects on diseases of digestive tract (stomach, intestines, biliary), and kidney and urinary bladder, and the peripheral circulatory system. In 1803, Viennese citizen Valentin Gunther received treatment in Borsec healing of a disease is considered incurable. Returning to Vienna, I propose a relative to trade with mineral water from Borsec, where to rent Upper (a small hamlet at the time) from Lazarus and Ditrau municipalities, Borsecului owners.

In 1804 Gunther Zimmetshausen and Eisner (my engineer) goes on to treat Borsec lease and see if you can make a glass factory for bottling. It has signed a lease contract for 28 years. In addition to soda, to Borsec were found in abundance all the materials needed for the manufacture of glass. Zimmetshausen Borsec move in in 1805, works from extensive housing construction, deforestation, road construction and a glass factory. It brings workers in manufacturing glass specialists from Austria, Bohemia, Bavaria and Poland. Their names have been preserved by descendants as: Siller, Talmaier, Birman, Fokt, etc.. In 1806 started bottling industries in glass bottles manufactured in Borsec. The first year was 3 million gallons of bottled mineral water, which were transported by carts in the four corners, and getting to Vienna. Trapped in the well water from the springs 1 and 2 was poured into bottles, stoppered with cork and waxed by sealing. It is interesting that the bottling was done only on sunny days when air pressure was maximum, and thus CO2 content was maximum.

Here, both water and gas have relatively high natural radioactivity.Balvanyos today were formed by merging the three colonies of bathrooms that worked once. The oldest is the one that stands in step Balvanyos: Smelly from Turia (the word "putsch" refers to the unpleasant smell of hydrogen sulfide). The healing properties of mineral waters from Balvanyos are recognized for a long time, residents using them to treat numerous diseases.
